Will Smith Fights Himself in Ang Lee’s “Gemini Man”

Will Smith’s life is about to get flipped upside down.

Ang Lee’s newest sci-fi film stars Smith as Henry Brogen, an aging assassin who is targeted by an agile operative who can seemingly predict his every move. The twist? Smith is on the run from a younger clone of himself who is just as confused. The film also stars Clive Owen, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Benedict Wong.

Based on a concept from screenwriter Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After, Turbo), the film was originally conceived in 1997 as a Tony Scott feature and stalled for almost 20 years before Lee took the reins. Curtis Hanson (L.A Confidential, Wonder Boys, 8 Mile) and Joe Carnahan (NarcThe Grey, A-Team) were considered for the project, but neither director ever signed on. Harrison Ford, Clint Eastwood, Mel Gibson, and Sean Connery were all considered as potential leads. Lee agreed to direct the film after Skydance Media purchased the screenplay rights from Walt Disney Pictures in 2016. Considered one of the greatest contemporary filmmakers of today, Lee has numerous award nominations and Oscar wins for Life of Pi (Best Director), Brokeback Mountain (Best Director), and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Best Foreign Language Film).

Gemini Man is shot in 3D at 120 frames per second (fps) and 4k resolution, Lee’s second attempt at the format after Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk was the first to be shot in 120fps. Billy Lynn was only shown in its intended format in two theaters nationwide since most theaters were not equipped with the display technology.

“Ang’s unique vision for this film includes recording and projecting in the most pristine and immersive formats. We want to do everything possible to make projecting the high frame rate version of Gemini Man a turnkey experience for you and provide audiences with the latest technological advancement in cinema.” – Paramount Pictures

To combat this, Paramount Pictures has released a letter to theater exhibitors in preparation of Gemini Man. The letter indicates that the film will be offered in both 120fps 2D and 60fps 3D formats to ensure each theater can access a version. This is most likely in addition to the standard 24fps 3D and 24fps 2D verisons. The letter also includes testing instructions so each theater can determine if they are equipped for the High Frame Rate (HFR) technology present in Gemini Man.

Gemini Man will be released by Paramount on October 4 and debut in theaters on October 11.

Then, in “Billy the Bug,” Fire Chief McCloud accidentally buys a malfunctioning Twirly Hat for her nephew.

Citizens of LEGO City introduced throughout the series include: Sergeant Duke DeTain (Joe Zieja, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4), an overly heroic cop; Freya McCloud (Misty Lee, DC Super Hero Girls), a crisis-ready fire chief; Shirley Keeper (Alex Cazares, The Loud House), the grumpy street sweeper; Harl Hubbs (Daniel MK Cohen, Fixed), an overeager handyman; Tippy Dorman (James Arnold Taylor, Star Wars: The Clone Wars), an expert doorman with a secret; Solomon Fleck (Roger Craig Smith, Avengers Assemble), the dedicated city mayor; Percival “Wheelie” Wheeler (Mick Lauer, Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal), a skateboarding police chief and more.
