Joaquin Phoenix to Star in New Joker Origin Story

Warner Bros. has just announced they are producing a new film starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker. According to the studio, the movie will be an “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.”

Todd Phillips has signed on to direct the standalone film centering around the super-villian’s origin story. Phillips co-wrote the film’s screenplay with acclaimed writer Scott Silver, the talent behind The Fighter and 8 Mile. Phillips is best known for his other blockbuster hits including Old School, Road Trip, and The Hangover franchise.

In an interview with Collider, Phoenix spoke about his approach to such an iconic character.

“I take a lot of time and consideration when making decisions and what I’m gonna work on always. So, in some ways, the process, which is obviously reading a script and meeting a filmmaker and then continuing to have meetings and discussions with Todd [Phillips]. I think he’s very impressive and he seems to have a very interesting understanding of this world and what he’s trying to say. And so there is something very appealing about that and working with him on this particular project. It feels unique, it is its own world in some ways, and maybe, mostly, it scares the fucking shit out of me or something. It might as well be the thing that scares you the most.”

Phoenix has tackled other eccentric characters before in films such as I’m Still Here and Her. Although the studio has not released any detailed information about the Joker in this film, some fans have begun imagining Phoenix’s transition.

The film is currently in pre-production and set to begin shooting in New York in September 2018.

This announcement comes after the news that Jared Leto will reprise his Joker in a standalone film for Warner Bros. as well. After the success of Suicide Squad, the studio decided to expand the franchise and produce a film centering around Leto’s portrayal of the villain. According to Warner Bros., Phillips’ film will explore a new origins banner in a DC universe separate from the Suicide Squad universe. Each film will explore the actors’ portrayals of the character without overlapping, but there is no word if fans will sit through both versions.

While Comcast X1 Xfinity customers have had access to the international music video service XITE for some time now the streaming music video service is now coming to even more set-top boxes, connected devices, and smart TVs in the United States.

XITE is now on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Comcast X1 Xfinity and coming soon to Roku, and features a full catalog of music videos from artists across all major and top independent labels. Availability on mobile devices and tablets will follow in the second half of 2019.

XITE is a fully immersive music experience that allows users to lean back and enjoy or play VJ through easy, fun-to-use interactive features. The app continuously adapts to users’ tastes based on the videos they search, watch, and like. Users can favorite or skip any music video, and create their own station drawing from different genres, eras, and visual styles.

XITE’s expansive library features today’s most popular and trending music videos — from Ariana Grande to Toro Y Moi, to recent first-time GRAMMY winners Cardi B and Greta Van Fleet, to international sensations Bad Bunny and Dua Lipa and more — as well as more than 100 distinct music video channels.

🦈 Shark Tank ❤️ Amazon

Mark Cuban may be out, but consumers are in.

Amazon has announced that it is now an official retail partner for “Shark Tank” products.

The new Amazon Launchpad Shark Tank Collection highlights products seen on “Shark Tank,” including the Hatch Baby, Third Wave Water and Stasher, among others.

This collaboration, which coincides with the premiere of “Shark Tank” season 10, provides an opportunity for successfully-funded Shark Tank startups and entrepreneurs to launch and showcase their products on Amazon.com. “Shark Tank” season 10 airs on Sundays at 9pm Eastern on ABC.

The new Amazon hub built around “Shark Tank” products allows users to see products by how many sharks invested, by guest sharks, and several other interesting data points.

All startups and entrepreneurs that Sharks have invested in will be considered for the Amazon Launchpad program. In addition, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is offering a $15,000 credit for cloud computing services to each eligible “Shark Tank” entrepreneur.
